Masur Birch - Maserbirke

The Designer’s Inspiration. Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre
Back in 1972, when the BeoCord 4002 was created, I was 7 years old and listening to Beatles, Doors and Tommy Steel on my parents Bang & Olufsen stereo system, sat in the egg chair in our quite cold living room, as this was the start of the oil crisis. John Lennon was singing in his characteristic voice and giving hope to the young hippies of the time. He wore his yellow sunglasses, had long hair and was generally the styling icon of the 70’s.
Me and my friends were riding minibikes and Raleigh chopper bicycles and in the US they already had fun on BMX bikes. Mine was light blue metallic and it was ridden to its limit with all kinds of stunts we could think of like jumping and sliding with or without mudguards, the handlebar upside down or backwards often with the trousers stuck in the chain, due to the wide trouser legs.
The masur birch, that we have chosen, is a unique birch sort, that only grows in Nordic countries like Scandinavia. The trees for this collection were planted in the 70’s and is just about ready to harvest now. It’s from a very tiny forest, privately owned and it is placed near the east coast of Jutland in Denmark. This birch sort grows faster on the outside that the core allows, which creates this wonderful play in the wood when its cut and crafted into a furniture piece.
Due to the tiny size of the forest, there will only be a very limited amount of this edition available. And when the amount is used, we will never be able to craft more of this kind. /Kresten”
